Haven Yoga Meditation explains how long you should be meditating for each day to achieve the best results.
Meditation is an essential practice to maintain one’s overall health and well-being, and achieve a sense of inner peace.
By practising meditation for as little as five minutes, twice per day, you could help alleviate your stress levels and increase your focus levels dramatically. Here’s why:
What is meditation?
The word meditation encapsulates both a state of being and the practice of meditation itself. It can take several different forms and involve many different techniques. The most common approach to meditation is formal meditation, which typically involves sitting down in a quiet place to clear the mind by concentrating on your breath and drawing focus to the sounds around you or a particular object. Other meditation techniques can also involve the use of a mantra or gentle movement practices such as yoga.
What are the benefits?
The practice of meditation offers many benefits including reduced stress levels, improved memory, increased attention, enhanced willpower, better sleep, less pain, lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety and depression and greater levels of compassion*.
At Haven Yoga Meditation, we have witnessed the benefits that people are experiencing from participating in meditation in Brisbane during our sessions. But it is also important to note that meditation does not need to take place in a studio session to be effective.
Setting some realistic meditation goals
The easiest way to hit your twice-a-day target is to set yourself some – such as by committing only 5 minutes for each session. The practice of meditation can also be informal, with many people preferring to meditate in alternative ways. For example, many people meditate by engaging in repetitive activities, such as going for mindful walks and being present to Nature, which allows them to disconnect from any life stresses and practice their inner focus.
For the average individual, simply taking just 10 minutes out of your day to meditate will allow you to begin to see the benefits and changes that you need. For those using meditation to manage conditions such as pain, or simply wish to have a more involved meditation session, longer periods of daily meditation, at around 40 minutes per day, are recommended.
At Haven we recognise that it is difficult to get time out of your day to devote to meditation, but for those who are seeking more involved and a deeper meditation our one hour sessions are perfect for those wanting to meditate in Brisbane.
