Haven Yoga and Meditation explains the gateways to relaxation you can use to manage your stress through yoga and meditation.
It can be hard to find time in our busy schedules to come off the emergency button and start to relax.
To help you we have compiled a helpful checklist to speed your relaxation process and begin your journey to inner and outer rejuvenation. Here are the three gateways to relaxation offered through Yoga and Meditation.
Find Your Face in Space
The first thing you can do to help your relaxation is to touch your face. Throughout our days the stress we encounter is worn across our faces so the first thing you can do is smooth your frown and unclench your jaw. You can try moving your jaw around a bit, maybe saying all the vowel sounds, really stretching and then relaxing it. Soften your lips and let your tongue drop to the base of your mouth.
Release Your Body Tension
Relax your shoulders and practice your breathing. We hold a lot of tension in our shoulders often unconsciously. Have a quick check now and see. Then breathe right down low and slow so your belly expands. Try breathing with a relaxing thought such as “I love to relax”, or “It feels good to unwind”. Belly breathing is incredibly useful in relieving stress and will assist your journey towards relaxation.
Connect With Your Mind
Allow your mind to wander and naturally draw attention to different parts of your life. Resisting this natural internal moving can interfere with some of the healing effects of meditation. Any kind of resisting, blocking, or controlling provides the opposite of relaxation.
While aware of your thoughts, notice if you are being harsh on yourself. Criticising, judging, forcing, hindering, comparing … all of us have to deal with these negative thoughts in our meditation, especially as beginners. Simply notice those thoughts and don’t interfere with them.
