Haven Yoga Meditation explains how frequency healing works, and the potential benefits.
Sound frequency healing can work to produce improvements in a number of different ailments*, particularly for psychological conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress. Keep reading to find out how sound healing works, and the potential benefits you can experience from it.
How does sound frequency healing work?
Sound healing as a practice has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of ailments. Our bodies support an underlying energy field that affects our emotional, physical and mental behaviours; this is what is targeted by sound healing sessions. If part of the body is out of sync with the rest, this can negatively affect overall health. By using different frequencies, sound healing can effectively re-synchronise the body and restore balance. There are particular frequencies that provide excellent healing qualities by replicating sounds associated with brainwaves that lead to peace, calm and healing.
Below are some common frequencies used in healings:
0.1 – 4 Hz
The same frequency as Delta brainwaves, which occur during deep sleep.
4 – 8 Hz
The same frequency as Theta brainwaves, which occur during REM sleep.
7 – 14 Hz
The same frequency as Alpha brainwaves, which occur during a relaxed state of mind.
12 – 38 Hz
The same frequency as Beta brainwaves, which occur when you are awake and engaged.
30 – 50 Hz
The same frequency as Gamma brainwaves, which occur when you are highly focused.
What are the potential benefits of sound healing?
Sound healing is an excellent supplementary treatment to use alongside more traditional methods of healing. Other than the improvements for psychological ailments, sound healing can provide some general health improvements such as:
Deeper relaxation and improved sleep – improved sleep quality leads to better overall well-being.
Boosted immune system – stimulates the body’s natural healing process.
Increased mental clarity – helps you to focus and achieve goals with less stress.
Enhanced creativity – Inspires you to think outside the box.
Emotional healing – Releases emotional blockages, promoting healing and balance.
Pain relief – Helps to alleviate physical pain and increase comfort.
Balanced energy – Balanced energy systems result in better overall health and well-being.
The benefits can differ from person to person – this is important to keep in mind when beginning your healing sessions.
Are there different types of sound healing?
Sound healing using different frequencies can be administered through several different methods. Instruments such as Wind Gongs, Tibetan Healing Bowls, and Crystal Bowls are commonly used during sessions. Sometimes, sound healing can also incorporate aspects of meditation, as well as chanting and vocal toning. At Haven Yoga Meditation, we run a weekly session that combines meditation with sound healing to further induce a deeply relaxed, centered state.
